111 COVID-19 Cases In Dawes Co, Only 16 Active

Panhandle Unified Command confirmed 15 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 more recoveries on Wednesday, pushing the number of active cases to 88.

The region now has 726 cases, 632 recoveries and 6 deaths.

      Dawes County has 16 active cases after adding 5 more positive tests Wednesday for a total of 111 and having just 3 additional recoveries for 95. 

      One of the new cases is either a student or staff member at Chadron Middle School, the only active case in the district, which has 4 quarantines.

      The number of active cases at Chadron State College remains at 4 with one new case and one new recovery. Students account for 38 of the school’s 43 cases and all 4 active cases. The other 5 are staff members.

     Statewide, the number of new cases far outstripped the number of recoveries – 430 to 124 – with 15 deaths, one of the highest single-day totals but believed to reflect record keeping catching up after the holiday weekend.

       Nebraska now has 8,421 active cases with 172 hospitalized. The overall totals are 36,917 cases with 28,175 recoveries and 421 deaths. 36% of all hospital beds, 31% of ICU beds, and 81% of ventilators in Nebraska remain available
