3 Vehicle Crash On Hwy 79 In Hermosa Claims 1 Life

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says one person was killed and one injured in a three-vehicle crash Friday morning at the junction of Hwys 36 and 79  in Hermosa.

Names have not been released pending notification of family. All 3 drivers were wearing seat belts.

      The Highway Patrol says an older model SUV had stopped eastbound on Hwy 36 at the junction, then turned left to head north on Hwy 79 when it collided with another SUV headed south.

The southbound SUV rolled and a southbound pickup then hit both SUVs

     The 67-year-old male driver of the eastbound SUV was airlifted to a Rapid City hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. 

       The 56-year-old female driver of the southbound SUV was taken by ambulance to a Rapid City hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries while the 20-year old male driver of the pickup was not injured.
