SD House Leaders Ask AG To Investigate Gov Making Spending Decisions Without Legislative OK

Loading

Leaders of the South Dakota House who clashed with Gov Kristi Noem over spending during the just-ended legislative session aren’t giving up the fight.

After the House upheld Noem’s veto of a bill giving lawmakers more say on how federal stimulus funds are spent, Speaker Spencer Gosh and 10 other Republicans asked Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg to review the issue.

The letter, sent just after the session ended Monday, asks if Noem broke the law by dispersing some of the stimulus funds as grants to daycare providers without first getting legislative approval.

The lawmakers asked Ravnsborg to appoint an assistant attorney general or outside counsel to review the legality issue and start court action to ensure all state spending is done with lawful authority.
