Panhandle Unified Command says the number of new COVID-19 cases in Dawes County rose by 5 on Thursday, 4 adults and one child, to reach 77, but the county also had 5 recoveries, leaving the number of active cases at 32.
One of the new cases is either a student or staffer at Chadron High School, bringing the school’s total to 9 and the district’s to 11. Only 2 cases are active, the new one and one at Chadron Primary School, with 28 students and staff quarantined after possible exposure.
The latest update from Chadron State College has 21 cases, 17 students and 4 employees, with 14 active cases, 13 students and 1 employee.
Unified Command’s Thursday report for the full Panhandle had 8 new cases and 13 more recoveries. The totals are now 614 cases, 508 recoveries, 6 deaths and 100 active cases, including 6 hospitalizations.
Statewide, Nebraska Health and Human Services last evening reported 374 new cases, 320 recoveries, and 5 new deaths.
The state totals now stand at 33,101 cases with 25,009 recoveries, 391 deaths, and 7,701 active cases. There are 174 individuals hospitalized with the percentage of available hospital beds staying at 32% but available ICU beds falling to 29%. 84% of respirators remain available.
