Interim Rapid City PD and FD Chiefs Now Permanent

Rapid City now has new heads of the police and fire departments. The City Council Monday night accepted Mayor Steve Allender’s recommendation that interim chiefs Don Hedrick and Jason Culburtson be given the jobs permanent.

Both were sworn-in shortly after the council vote and received standing ovations before and after the ceremony.

Hedrick joined the Rapid City Police Department in 2002 while Culbertson is a 27-year veteran of the fire department.

Mayor Allender, a retired Rapid City police chief, says both men have great leadership skills as well as the genuine sense of caring and other qualities needed to serve all the citizens of the community
