The Chadron State College Music Department is hosting jazz great Bobby Watson today and Tuesday.
Watson, an alto saxophone virtuoso, is giving a free concert tonight at 7:00 in Memorial Hall, joined by a combo of CSC professors, students, and graduates. He’ll also be offering master classes as well.
Watson began his career with legendary drummer Art Blakey’s The Jazz Messengers and went on to play with many other greats. He’s also a band leader and composer with some of his numbers on tonight’s concert list.
Today is also the start of the High Plains Band and Choir Festival, with over 100 of the top high school vocalists and instrumentalists from around the region spending two days of rehearsals and clinics.
Chadron State Director of Bands John Wojcik is the clinician/conductor for the Festival Band while Dr Marcela Molina, executive director of the Tucson Girls Chorus and a board member of Chorus America, is the guest clinician/conductor for the Chorus.
The High Plains Band and Chorus Festival concludes with a free concert tomorrow at 5:00 in Memorial Hall.
