Alliance Police Chief Phillip Lukens says a local teenager was critically wounded in what appears to have been an accident self-inflicted shooting Saturday evening at an alliance home.
Chief Lukens told KNEB News the name of the teenager is not being released at this time and that the teen at last report remained hospitalized on life support.
Lukens said a number of individuals were present at the time of the shooting and their accounts all indicated the incident was accidental and self-inflicted. The case remains under investigation.
The chief said his department and the Alliance community as a whole are deeply saddened by the incident and extend their thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the teenager.
He also said his officers have coordinated with the schools, the Crisis Response Team, and the Native Futures Leader to provide support across the community.”
