The basic idea, is that by 2030, 30% of the land and water in the United States will be in conservation with the ultimate goal of 50% of land and water in conservation by 2050. At the end of April, as required by law, the Department of Interior released a plan as to how executive order 14008 would be enacted. The released plan is titled “Conserving and Restoring America the Beautiful”, the 22-page report can be found on-line for viewing. There seems to be a lot of nervousness surrounding the 30×30 proposal, especially in rural America. In fact, several western governors, including Governor Ricketts have been very vocal on this subject. They are worried about extensive federal over-reach, increases in government-controlled land, and further restrictions on public lands. To help address these issues and educate the public on the 30×30 proposal, Governor Ricketts has been holding public meetings across the state. Governor Ricketts will be in Gordon on Thursday evening, June 17, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. at the City Auditorium. Land and property owners, and any concerned citizen in Sheridan County and surrounding areas, are being encouraged to attend this important meeting.
