Graveside services for 72-year old Anthony Janis Sr are Thurs, March 25, 2021 at 3:15 PM at the Holy Rosary Mission Catholic Cemetery in Pine Ridge, SD, with Mr Charles McGaa, Mr Don Belile, and Pastor Ken Trivette officiating, special music by Sherry Trivette, and traditional Lakota services by John Red Feather & Quincy Red Feather
Visitation precedes the services on Thursday March 25 from noon – 3:00 PM at the Sioux Funeral Home in Pine Ridge, SD.
Anthony Wayne Janis Sr was born on April 15, 1948 to Ella (Ringing Shield) Janis and Hobart Janis in Pine Ridge, SD. Anthony left to be with the Lord on March 17, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family, as his final wish.
When Anthony was younger, he lived and worked in Bayard, NE and then went on the Relocation Program to Dallas, TX. Anthony returned to Pine Ridge and held various jobs.
Anthony was a humble, humorous, and happy person who enjoyed the company of his family and friends. Anthony loved to watch movies, listen to Elvis songs, and drink his coffee.
Anthony is survived by his loving life-long partner, Corrine I. Helper-Janis; children, Anthony Colhoff of Rapid City, SD, Antonio Janis of Limon, CO, David Janis and Tiffany Janis both of Pine Ridge, SD, Tammy Janis of Gordon, NE, and Candace Red Feather of Potato Creek, SD; sisters, Winnifred Janis of Sioux Falls, SD, Josephine Freeman, Bernadine Freeman, and Michelle Janis of Rapid City, SD, and stepbrother, Edward Catches of Calico, SD; aunt, Mary Janis-Merrival; 23 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Hobart and Ella (Ringing Shield) Janis; son, Anthony W. Janis III; maternal grandparents, Nancy & William Ringing Shield; paternal grandparents, Sophie Garnier-Janis and Peter Janis; brothers, Philbert Janis, Martin Janis, and Cortland Janis; stepbrother, Dale Catches; and half-brother, Ben Freeman.
Honorary pallbearers will be All Co-Workers, Marjila Janis of the Philippines, Stillwater Hospice Nurses and Chaplains, and All Friends & Relatives.
Pallbearers will be Samuel Richard, Tony Janis, George Red Feather, Anthony Janis IV, Kyle Clifford, Poncho Aguilar, Stanley Walking, Richard Hill, Jesse Janis, Brandon Helper, and Mr. Saucedo.
