Area Golfers Chasing Top 15 Finishes At State Meets

After the conclusion of the first day of the Nebraska boys state golf meets, most of the area golfers are sitting in the middle of the pack in their classes.

The outlier is Gordon-Rushville’s Jace Nelson who currently holds down a tie for the 19th spot at the Class C meet in Columbus, just two strokes out of medal contention. His first day score of 84 was highlighted by his only birdie on the par 4, 18th.

Crawford’s John Nolan and Hay Springs’ Gabe Varvel are in a tie for 30th in Class D in North Platte with matching 88’s and are trailing the top 15 by just four strokes.

Chadron’s Jacksyn Behrends is almost smack dab in the middle of Class B after firing an 89 at Scottsbluff Country Club.

The only school with a team competing is Crawford where they’re tied for 11th with Humphrey St. Francis with a first day score of 379.

Other area scores on the day include Tegan Snyder of Gordon-Rusvhille shooting a 94. The remaining quad from Crawford had Payton Swanson carding a 95, Rhett Flack and Roman Metz closed out with 98’s, and Mitch Knode capped his day with a 111.
