Bernice Francis Mueller was born in Overton, NE, to Frank and Anna Slattery on March 6, 1932. She passed away on May 9, 2022, at the Monument Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.

Bernice graduated from Bennett County High School in 1950 and completed her nursing school in Rapid City at St John’s Hospital in 1954. While working as a nurse in Rapid City, she met her husband Fred Mueller.

Bernice married Fred Mueller on August 7, 1954, in Martin. To this union three children were born: MIchael, Frank, and Barbara.

Bernice continued working as a nurse when the young family moved to La Porte, IN, but changed careers when moved back to South Dakota in 1960 and started Mueller’s Feed the next year.

It proved to be a long-term job – Bernice retired in 2007 after running the business for 46 years.

When she wasn’t working, Bernice enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, playing BINGO, gambling, and watching the Minnesota Twins.

She spent as much time as possible with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and attended all their extra-curricular activities.

Bernice is survived by her children, Michael Mueller of Clark’s Summit, PA, Frank Mueller of Whitewood, SD, Barbara (Stewart) Hagman of Piedmont, SD, grandchildren Ryan Mueller of Billings, MT, Ramy Boomer of Sturgis, SD, Andi (Greg) Litton of Rapid City, SD, Leslie (Jason) Harlan of Wheatland, WY, Michael Hagman of Ft. Pierre, SD, and Steven (Katy) Hagman of Clarksville, TN, great-grandchildren Brayden Mueller, Kyler Mueller, Kendyn Boomer, Kynlea Boomer, Avery Harlan, and Lane Harlan. Bernice is also survived by her siblings Mary Ann Sieh of Brown City, MI, and John (Connie) Slattery of Martin, SD, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Anna Slattery, husband Fred Mueller, sister Marcella Byrnes, brother Jim (Alice) Slattery, and brother-in-law Merrill Sieh.

Bernice’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Arrowhead Lodge Senior Living in Rapid City, SD, and the Monument Hospice House of the Black Hills.
