Burial service will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Wounded Knee
A one-night wake service starts Friday, Nov 20, 2020 at 1:00 PM. also at the Spotted Eagle residence
Bernice Evangeline (Black Bear) Spotted Eagle “Wanbli Wankatuya Kinyan Win” was born on October 17, 1946 at home near Hay Springs, NE. Bernice made her journey to the Spirit World on November 13, 2020 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Bernice is survived by her husband, Carl Broken Leg; children, Darlene Hawk Wing, Andrea Hawk Wing, McKelaja Hawk Wing, Vanessa Little Bull, Ruby Plenty Arrows and Virgil Hawk Wing, Jr.; siblings, Curtis Black Bear and Darlene Red Star; 29 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Black Bear, Sr. and Lydia Ruth (Eagle Bear) Black Bear; siblings, Madeline Black Bear, Alberta Black Bear, Eugene Black Bear, Jr., and Emma Kay Black Bear; daughter, Nancy Melvina Hawk Wing; grandfather, Jim Black Horse; uncle, Seth Eagle Bear; and nephew, Marcus Red Star.
Pallbearers will be Mario Standing Bear, Jr., Ethan Standing Bear, Gary Little Bull, Jr., Jalen Little Bull, Jamal Hawk Wing, Daniel Lopez, Andrew Hawk Wing, Virgil Hawk Wing III, Nathan Joaquin and Noah Spotted Bear.
