Body Of Torrington Woman Recovered From The North Platte River

    Searchers in the Torrington area recovered the body Monday morning of a woman reported missing Sunday on the North Platte River. 

     The Goshen County Coroner has ruled the death of 48-year old Mariah Johns of Torrington as accidental

      Dispatchers in Torrington received a call late Sunday afternoon that Johns had gone into the water to retrieve a kayak and hadn’t been seen since.

      Members of the Goshen County Sheriff’s Office, Torrington Fire Department, and Goshen County Search and Rescue quickly responded and began a search that was halted by darkness after 4-hours about 10:00 pm.

     Search and Rescue team members remained on the scene overnight and were rejoined Monday morning by the other 2 agencies plus personnel from Torrington EMS, Scottsbluff Fire Department, Goshen Irrigation District, and the coroner’s office. 

    Johns body was found after about 2 hours of search and was recovered a little before 9 am.
