Bond Set At $100,000 In Death Of Box Elder Toddler

Bond has been set at $100,000 for a Rapid City-area woman accused of abusing and killing a 2-year-old girl who died over the weekend.

22-year old Precious Black Elk of Box Elder is charged with 2nd-degree manslaughter and aggravated child abuse, which together carry a maximum of 25 years in prison.

No date has been set for a preliminary hearing.

Box Elder police say Black Elk called 911 Sunday afternoon to report the girl was not breathing. First responders arrived and found the toddler was unresponsive and beyond resuscitation.

Court records show officers said it was immediately obvious the girl did not die naturally because of the amount and severity of bruising on her body, including finger marks on her face.

Her attorney says Black Hawk admitted to “losing her temper” and tying the child’s leg to a bed.
