KEYSTONE, S.D. (AP) – The South Dakota Dept of Health says the number of confirmed coronavirus cases at Camp Judson, the American Baptist summer church camp in the Black Hills near Keystone, has now reached 96.
All but 3 are South Dakota residents and 44 of them have already recovered. The average age was 15, but cases occurred in the 5-to-9 and 70-to-74 year old groups. 59 of those stricken are female with 34 male. None have been hospitalized
State epidemiologist Joshua Clayton says 328 people had been at the camp this summer before it closed when the first COVID-19 cases were confirmed – 285 South Dakotans and 43 out-of-staters.
Clayton says the Camp Judson outbreak, with just under 30% testing positive, is less severe than one at a camp in Georgia where 44% of the 597 campers later tested positive for COVID-19.
