The Chadron City Council meets tonight at 5:00 with just one item on the agenda – picking the finalists in the search for a new city manager.
Chadron received 29 applications for the post and the city council used a matrix of 30 skills, experiences, and traits scored from 0-5 to help settle on 9 candidates who were offered the chance to be semifinalists.
Nine accepted and were interviewed via Zoom by Mayor Mark Werner, Vice Mayor Cheryl Welch, City Clerk Donna Rust, and city HR Director Bev Bartlett with councilmen Keith Crofutt and Joe Johndreau observing.
Tonight, the 6 will complete a second matrix score for the semi-finalists with the council using those scores as the primary tool in inviting between 2 and 5 to be finalists and come to Chadron next month for in-person interviews.
Names won’t be released until the finalists are set and have accepted, which could be as early as tomorrow. Candidates will be referred to by number during tonight’s meeting.
Councilman Miles Bannan was one of the city manager applicants and has not taken part in the search process.
Tonight’s council meeting will be streamed with the link at the city website and on Great Plains Cable Channel 19.
