Chadron Council To Meet Monday And Pick City Manager Finalists

The Chadron City Council will meet in special session next Monday at 5:00 to decide on finalists for the position of city manager.

Mayor Mark Werner, Vice-Mayor Cheryl Welch, City Clerk Donna Rust, and City Human Resources Director Bev Bartlett interviewed 9 semifinalists by Zoom last Thursday-Friday.

Two more members of the original pool of 29 applicants were invited to be interviewed, but declined after accepting jobs elsewhere.

The 4 city officials and council members Joe Johndreau and Keith Crofutt, who observed the interviews, will fill out a scoring matrix for each of the 9 semifinalists and use it as the primary tool for picking at least 2 finalists.

The meeting will be open to the public, but each candidate will be referred to by a number instead of a name. No names will be released until the finalists, however many are selected, have accepted.

The finalists will come to Chadron around mid-April for in-person interviews and to meet with city employees and community stakeholders. The council hopes to make its final choice soon after.

Greg Yanker resigned at the end of last year to return to engineering, accepting a job with Fuller Construction of Chadron. Retired longtime city public works director Milo Rust is the part-time interim city manager.
