Chadron High Claims 3rd Straight Western Conference One-Act Crown

Chadron High School is now the 3-time defending Western Conference One-Act Play champion, claiming the title Saturday in Gering in a competition that had the judges as the only audience because of COVID-19 concerns.

Chadron High’s play this year is “The Perfect Ending” by B. Dwayne Craft – a 30-minute comedy about a quintessential 1950s family dealing with the end of the world while not letting it interfere with “the perfect dinner party.”

Placing 2nd behind Chadron was Sidney with host Gering 3rd and Alliance 4th. No other schools competed this year.

Chadron’s Kennedy Stack, who earlier in the week signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Nebraska-Kearney, was voted the Best Actress of the Festival with Gering’s Wyatt Soule the Best Actor.

Next up for Chadron in 3 weeks is districts, but instead of competing in their own B-6 District, the Cardinals are in B-4 in York – the result of the NSAA sending all of last year’s district runners-up to other districts this year.

There’s a chance for local residents to see the play tonight at 7:00 in the Chadron High Auditorium. Cost is $5, but seating is limited to 150 under the state’s COVID-19 Directed Health Measures.
