The Chadron High School production of the musical Into The Woods opens its 3 performance run tonight in the High School Auditorium.
Director Wendy Mahr Rhoads is excited to again offer live theater in front of a live audience.
Into the Woods offers two different takes on 4 classic fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm. Rhoads says the first act is a fairly straightforward, if interconnected, telling of them while the second act tells what follows “and they lived happily ever after.”
The book or script is by 3-time Tony Award winner James Lapine while the words and music are by Stephen Sondheim, who has 8 Tonys – more than any other composer – plus 8 Grammys, an Oscar, and a Pulitzer Prize.
Rhoads says Sondheim is why she had mixed feelings about picking Into The Woods for this year’s musical.
Tickets for Into The Woods are available at the door, but Rhoads says they’re cheaper if you buy them in advance.
Curtain time is 7:00 tonight and tomorrow night and Sunday afternoon at 2:00.
