Chadron Police Arrest 3 In Burglary Of Guns

The Chadron Police Department says 3 people were arrested Sunday as the result of an investigation into stolen guns.

34-year old Thomas Catches is charged with burglary, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, and possession of a stolen firearm.

60-year old Arvella Catches is charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and possession of a stolen firearm while 57-year old Lance Brewer faces a single count of possession of a stolen firearm.

Officer Zach Klemp says he and fellow officer Seth Orsborn were sent to the 100 block of Pine Street after a concerned homeowner reported finding a gun behind a couch inside their house and that they believed it was put there by someone who was in the house while the call was being made.

Officer Klemp says when they arrived, they talked with both the person who made the call and with Thomas Catches. Catches admitted bringing the gun into the house while the officers learned the weapon was one of 3 that had been stolen earlier Sunday during the burglary of a house on North Main Street.

That information led to a search warrant for 2 Chadron residences, one on Pine Street and one on North Pine, that led to the recovery of all 3 stolen guns – 2 rifles and a handgun.

All 3 suspects were arrested and taken to the Dawes County jail. Arvella Catches was released on a personal recognisance bond while Thomas Catches and Lance Brewer remain in custody on 10% of $10,000 bond.
