CHADRON – The Chadron School Board meets tonight at 5:30 in what may be its last session with Superintendent Dr Caroline Winchester, is retiring at the end of the month.
Winchester is in her 23rd year as a superintendent and 10th as superintendent of the Chadron Public Schools. She was the Chadron Record’s Co-Citizen of the Year in 2016 and the 2016-17 Nebraska Superintendent of the Year in 2016
Her successor, Dr Ginger Meyer, takes over July 1 and will be moving to Chadron later this month with her husband Deron and their 2 children, Nia and Tobin. Meyer has been superintendent of the Scribner-Snyder Community Schools since 2011.
Tonight’s Chadron School Board agenda includes updates and minor changes to a large number of policies, several of them recommended by the state school boards association and the district’s legal counsel to clarify procedures in light of this spring’s experience with the coronavirus pandemic.
Tonight’s meeting will again take place in part on Zoom videoconferencing. Members of the public can join at zoom.us/j/353380486.
Dr Winchester feels the use of Zoom has been positive for the school board because the number of individuals attending has been larger than for most board meetings.
