Charles (Blindman) Spotted ThunderPosted by John AxtellDate: July 24, 20206 ViewsFuneral services for 73-year old Charles (Blindman) Spotted Thunder are Friday, July 24, 2020 at 10:00 at the Wo’Oglaka Wakan Sundance Grounds, just on BIA 41 just south of Hwy 18 near the Chadron Junction at Oglala, SDBurial Service will be later Friday at 1:30 PM at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SDA two-night wake service began Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 4:00 PM, also at the Wo’Oglaka Wakan Sundance GroundsCharles Warren Spotted Thunder (Blindman) III “Agna Inyanke”, a member of the Oglala Sioux tribe, was born on January 13, 1947, in the Oglala Community on the Pine Ridge reservation to Charles Blindman, Jr. and Thelma Lone Wolf. He made his journey to the Spirit World on July 16, 2020, in Hay Springs.A descendant of Spotted Thunder and Blue Whirlwind, Charles followed Lakota traditional ways and was a spiritual leader for the Oyate. He also conducted a Sundance in the Oglala District.As a youngster, Charles attended Holy Rosary School, as well Oelrichs High school, where he was a star basketball player. He went on to attend UC Berkeley in California, Washington University in Missouri – where he earned his master’s degree in social work, and Chadron State College – where he earned his master’s degree in counseling.Charles led a varied and colorful life before he retired to Hay Springs. While living in California, he was drafted into the Army at the age of 22 and became a Ranger attached to the 101st Airborne division. He served in Vietnam and earned the National Defense Service Medal.For much of his adult life, Charles was employed as a steel worker and welder, primarily in California. When he returned to South Dakota, he dedicated himself to helping children and worked on the Pine Ridge Reservation at Red Cloud Indian School and Loneman School as a counselor.He humbly concealed his role as a protector and defender of the Oglala people. He took part in the occupation of Wounded Knee in 1973 to defend our Lakota way of life and manifest the spirit of his warrior ancestors. He continued to defend our way of life by practicing the Lakol Wicoh’an and fulfilling his dreams given to him by Tunkašila.This dedicated warrior, devoted father, and ambitious dreamer, blessed the lives of many with his presence. His spirit will be evident with those who miss him the most. His legacy will be strong with his family. His heart will forever be preserved within the hearts of his children and loved ones.Charles is survived by his wife, Virginia “Renee” (Page) Spotted Thunder; (Aunt) mom, Rita Long Visitor-Holy Dance; sister, Cordelia Blindman; children, Carmel Garnier, Tanya Spotted Thunder, Heather Spotted Thunder, Daniel Batle, Tiana Blindman-Spotted Thunder and Bianca Spotted Thunder; cousins, Nathaniel Blindman, Twila Blindman, Stewart Blindman, Stanley Blindman and Duane Blindman; nieces, Lucinda Garcia-Rhodd, Cecelia Rhodd, Sharon Rhodd, Gerita Amador, Laura Bear Runner, Collette “Dawn” Bear Runner, Sandra Bear Runner and Lolita Granados; nephews, Charles Blindman, Burnell Blindman, Jr., James Spotted Thunder, Kenneth Anthony No Heart, David Harlan, Lemuel Rhodd III and Edward Rhodd; and grandkids, Araceli, Bradley, Cody, Tia, Hopa Hosila, Draedon Malinao, Elliannah Elohi, Anola & Caden Mathis.Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Spotted Thunder, Jr. and Thelma (Lone Wolf) Blindman; siblings, Fedelia Spotted Thunder-Moreno, Burnell Blindman, Charlotte Blindman-Rhodd, Collins Blindman, Moses Delmar Blindman, Patrick Blindman, Candace Blindman and Eugene Blindman, Jr.; and grandparents, Charles Spotted Thunder, Sr., Netty Little Bird-Blindman, Oliver Lone Wolf and Cora Iron Bull-Lone Wolf.Pallbearers will be Pete Kavanaugh, David Harlan, Wakan Waci Blindman, Burnell “Rocky” Blindman, Jr., Hopa Spotted Thunder, Kenny Tungate, Daniel Batle, Bradley Garnier, Jason Blindman and Julian Bear Runner.Honorary pallbearers will be Deborah & Lemoyne Blindman, Charles Blindman, Harriett Blindman-Rocke & family, Ellen Kills Small, Adina Ybarrou, JR Laiwa & family, Damacion Family, Chris Luttichau, Tammy Brave & family, Lisa Faison, Ladanza Afraid of Bear, Miyo One Arrow, Tate Miller, John Porcupine, Jake Miller, Florence Black Feather & family, Cordelia Blindman, Adrian Santiago, SunDancers throughout the years, and All Friends & Relatives.Sioux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Charles Blindman Spotted Thunder.
