“Click Or Ticket” and “100 Days Of Summer” Campaigns Put More Cops On Roads

LINCOLN, Neb. – Although the prediction is for the fewest people traveling more than 50 miles from home in years this holiday weekend, there will still be millions and millions drivers out and they will once again see more law enforcement officers than on a regular weekend.

That’s because the latest edition of the Click It or Ticket national seat belt campaign is underway, running runs through the end of the month. Agencies around the national will have additional officers out focusing seat belt and child safety seat violations.

The Nebraska State Patrol and dozens of local law enforcement agencies around the state have received grants from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to cover the overtime costs of putting more officers on the road during the campaign.

The Chadron Police Department is among the participating agencies, receiving $1,000 to have more officers on patrol at various times. The latest local survey shows less than 60% of Chadron drivers use seat belts.

The State Patrol has also kicked off its annual “100 Days of Summer” campaign with traffic enforcement initiatives across the state through Labor Day.

The Patrol will provide updates on specific initiatives as they occur throughout the summer on its website and social media.
