Funeral services for 26-year old Cody Janis are Friday, July 8, 2022 at 11:00 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson, SD, with Deacon Bill White officiating and traditional Lakota services by Doug Patton
Burial is at the Janis Family Plot in Manderson
A one-night wake service starts Thurs, July 7, at 3:30 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson with evening services at 7:00.
Cody James Janis was born on February 23, 1996. at Mercy Medical Center in Durango, CO, to Angela (Janis) Ware. Cody made his journey to the Spirit World on July 1, 2022 in Rapid City, SD.
Cody spent 5 years in the Ignacio/Allison area of Colorado before moving to Clinton, AK, where he lived for 11 years. He participated in track, rodeo, 4-H, Boy Scouts, and trap shooting – which helped him fall in love with firearms and the sport of shooting.
Cody later moved to South Dakota, where he graduated from Red Cloud High School.
His first job was for Ron Werdell building silos across South Dakota, Nebraska, and Wyoming, but was very excited to be starting a new job with Simon Construction on the 5th of July as a heavy equipment operator.
Cody enjoyed having fun with his family and friends, and his family would like to thank all of you that had an impact on his life.
Cody is survived by his mother, Angela (Monte Waltman) Janis-Ware; brother, Casey Ware; grandparents, Dave & Kathy Janis; girlfriend, Stacee Plenty Arrows; son, Woodrow Elias Janis; daughter, Saylor Iveigh Janis; uncles, David G. (Dee) Janis and Walter E. Janis; cousins, Samantha (Kyle) Bourne, David T. Janis, Zach Janis, Danielle Janis, Conan Janis, Warren Red Cloud, and Jason Pumpkin Seed; niece, Payton Riley Janis; and hunka grandmothers, Laura Disbro & Florence Janis.
Cody was preceded in death by his aunst, Karlynn Janis, Mona Janis, and Rose LaDeaux; paternal great grandparents, David Walter Janis and Elfreda Richards-Janis; and maternal great grandparents, Bennie Eugene LaDeaux and Bessie Kills Small-LaDeaux.
Pallbearers will be David Todd Janis, Conan Janis, Dominic Janis, Eric Bissonette, Skye Young, Ryder Plenty Arrows, Steven DeWolfe, and John House.
Honorary pallbearers will be all Friends & Relatives
