Funeral services for 45-year old Curtis Pourier are Sat, April 30, 2022 at 10:00 at the Rockyford School Old Gymnasium in Rockyford, SD, with Father Peter Klink, SJ, and Deacon William “Bill” White officiating and traditional Lakota services by Jerome LeBeaux and Doug Patton

Burial is at the Pourier Family Cemetery in Sharps Corner, SD

A one-night wake service starts Friday, April 29, at 4:00 at the Rockyford School Old Gymnasium with Rosary services starting at 7:00 PM.

Curtis James Pourier was born on August 23, 1976 in Porcupine, SD to Curtiss D. Pourier and Ruth (Big Crow) Pourier.  Curtis made his journey to the Spirit World on April 21, 2022 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Curtis attended the Porcupine Head Start and finished kindergarten through the 7th grade at Our Lady of Lourdes in Porcupine, SD.  Curtis moved to Pine Ridge where he attended the 8th grade through the 12th grade and graduated from Pine Ridge High School in 1996.  After high school, Curtis attended Haskell University in Lawrence, KS.  

Curtis is survived by his mother, C. Ruth (Big Crow) Pourier; children Sabrina (Coleman Eagle Elk) Pourier, Kristina Pourier and their mother, Shana Thompson-Pourier; grandson, Jaxon Eagle Elk; brothers, Myron Pourier, Cody (Keisha) Pourier, Cash (Michelle) Pourier, Ricky (Haley) Christensen, and Wiley (Kassie) Steele; sister, Natalie Pourier; aunts, Phyllis Pourier, Deanna Pourier, Lavonne Richards, Brenda Zimiga, Erma Big Crow, Bessie (George) Dreamer, Joyce (Shorty) Brewer, Olive Big Crow, Elizabeth (Ernie) Little, Diane (Dennis) Painte, and Rita Running Shield; uncles, Duane (Loretta) Pourier, Delbert (Judy) Pourier, Duane Big Crow, Bobby Lee Mills, James Big Crow Jr, Ray (Sue) Big Crow, and Tim Big Crow; special friend, Shanna Finneran & Family; godchildren, Shaina Richards, Ty Pourier, and Waylon Lamont, Jr.; and godparents, Spencer and Eldean Weston; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Curtis was preceded in death by his father, Curtiss D. Pourier; brothers, Coy and Kip Pourier; grandparents, Hobert and Olivia (Black Elk) Pourier and James Sr and Marcella (Mills) Big Crow; aunts, Edna Pilcher, Carol Jacobs, Theresa Black Bull, and Geraldine Merchant; and uncles, Cecil Pourier, Pat Pourier, Lester Pourier, Walt Big Crow, Ben Big Crow, and Gerald “Jump” Big Crow.

Pallbearers will be Coleman Eagle Elk, Loren Swallow, Chad Bradford, Steve White Hat, Eleccio Howard, Shane Clifford, Dusty Cedar Face, Waylon Lamont, Jr., Mason Big Crow, Jamie Arpan, Wilson Two Lance, Kevin White Face, Timmy Jones, Canku Clifford, Melvin Sierra, Cody Morton, Darrel Brush Breaker, Jr., Joeday Walks, Ty Bissonette, Casey Provost, and Troy Brave.
