Funeral services for 71-year old Eileen Sherry New Holy – Moves Camp are Monday, June 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Moves Camp Residence in Little Grass Creek with traditional Lakota services by Mr Sam Moves Camp

Burial services will be at the Moves Camp Family Cemetery, Little Grass Creek, near Oglala, SD

A 3-night wake service starts Friday, June 12, 2020 at 12:30 PM at the Moves Camp residence in Little Grass Creek

Eileen Sherry New Holy – Moves Camp “Gatin Iya Win” was born on October 28, 1948 North of Manderson, SD at home to Ambrose New Holy, Sr. and Keva Ghost – New Holy.

Eileen grew up in the Manderson and Wounded Knee area. As a young woman, she was told that she would not live beyond her 20s due to chronic illness and that she would never have children. Then on November 17th, 1972, Eileen met the love of her life, Sam Moves Camp, as she would say “in the ditch” by Holy Rosary.

Her long and fruitful life that followed was the result of Lakota and Pejuta way of life. When Sam and Eileen met, they each had one son, and together they had seven children. Sam and Eileen were married on April 3, 2013 at the Pine Ridge Courthouse.

Eileen taught GED classes at the Oglala College Center, and also worked as a CHR for some years. Eileen was the backbone of the original Woptura Tiospaye She believed in her prayer and prayer for others, she helped people get ready for Yuwipis, Hanblechas, Wopilas, Wicacaje Wicogan, etc.

Eileen was funny and fierce but also full of spunk. She loved to laugh and be around her family. She also hosted holiday gatherings and birthday dinners for her family to make sure her loved ones knew they were her world. Eileen loved all her nephews, nieces, and all her grandchildren all over the world.

Eileen was brought home where she told her family she loved them and kissed them up. She was surrounded by her family where she heard and felt their love until her last breath on June 7th, 2020 at 11:29 am.

Eileen is survived by her husband, Sam Moves Camp; daughters, Trudine Moves Camp of Wanblee, SD, Andrea (Steven) Moves Camp of Kyle, SD, Hannah (Andy) Moves Camp of Little Grass Creek, SD, T. (Ronald) Moves Camp of Oglala, SD, and Patsy Ewenin of Canada; sons, Richard Roy of Little Grass Creek, SD, Ta-Cangleska Nunpa (Alequah) Moves Camp of Wanblee, SD, Ta-Sagye Wakan (Becky) Moves Camp of Oglala, SD, and Ta-Sina Tanka Moves Camp of Little Grass Creek, SD; siblings, Gary New Holy, Ambrose (Betty) New Holy, Jr., Charliey New Holy, Wesley New Holy, Sr., Diane (Ben) Iron Bird, Nancy New Holy, Trudy New Holy, Judy New Holy, and Sharon Arrowochis; 27 grandchildren; and great grandchildren, Kellen Iron Horse, Khloe Iron Horse, Alice Starr, Ariella Starr, Leo Starr, Everett Brewer, Zeebin, Mark, Keeva, Wakiya, and Shawinhan Ashawasegai.

Eileen was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph & Julia (Kills At Lodge) New Holy, Sr., and Frank & Julie (Jones) Ghost; parents, Ambrose New Holy, Sr. and Keva Ghost-New Holy; brothers, Raymond “Ringo” New Holy and Twin Boys New Holy; sisters, Andrea New Holy and Ruby New Holy; sons, John Moves Camp and Henry DuBray; and best friend, Lori Poitras.

Pallbearers will be Monica One Spot, Doreen Prosper, Kari Tomashik, JoAnne Lewis, Joan Johnson, Lisa McWilliams, Agnes Woods, and Becky Lone Elk.

Honorary pallbearers will be All Original Woptura Tiospaye Members, Hunka Relatives & Friends, Sister Barb, Florence Ten Fingers, Dr. Raymond and Transplant Team, and All Friends & Relatives.
