Funeral services 67-year old Frank Dillon Jr are Monday, Feb 1, 2021 at 2:00 PM CT at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Rosebud, SD, with Father Jim LaFontaine officiating and Spiritual Leader Mr Leonard Crow Dog

Burial is at the St Francis Community Cemetery in St. Francis, SD

A one-night wake starts Sunday, Jan 31, 2021 at 4:00 PM CT, also St Barbara’s Catholic Church in Rosebud

Frank Scott Dillon Jr  “Isnala Elhape” ~ Charging Alone ~ was born on September 8, 1953 in Bassett, NE to Frank Scott Dillon, Sr. and Marie Emma Swift. Frank made his journey to the Spirit World on January 22, 2021 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.

Frank attended school in Lincoln, NE, for all his life. After High School, he went to college at the University of Nebraska where he earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Literature. 

Frank joined the American Indian Movement (AIM) and became an activist with Carter Camp, Russell Means, Leonard Crow Dog, Joe Chasing Horse, Vernal T. Cross, Sr., and Charlie White Elk. 

He was in the Wounded Knee Occupation in 1973 and continued to fight for Native American rights. He also continued to help and pray with the Crow Dog Family. 

Frank was a sundancer at the hilltop for many years, then after the sundance was over, he lived off the reservation in Denver, CO, until an accident forced him to move home to St. Francis, SD for a few years. He would eventually live out his days in the Lake Andes Health Care Facility.

Frank was strong believer in the American Indian Rights Movement and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Frank is survived by his children, Reginald (Verna) Dillion of Rapid City, SD, Michael Dillion of Denver, CO, and Rocky Kills In Sight of St. Francis, SD; half-brother, Leonard Crow Dog, Sr.; and grandchildren, Wakinyan Dillon, Kee Robert Dillon, both of Phoenix, AZ and Katana Rae Dillon of Rapid City, SD.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Dillon, Sr. and Marie Swift; hunka parents, Emerson and Dorothy Fish; brothers, Charlie White Elk, Cecil Fish, and Alvin White Lance; nephew, Rodger Whitehat; cousin, Verona Douville; mother of Reginald, Marlyn Marie (Doll) Riffle; and friend, Gilbert Ollie Yellow Hawk.

Pallbearers will be Malik Metcalf, John Swift, Tony Black Spotted Horse, Emil Black Spotted Horse, Ansel Fish, Sr., Ed Whitehat, LJ Big Crow, and Silas Metcalf.

Honorary Pallbearers will be All AIM Members, Crow Dog Family, Ann & Lizzie Fish & Family, Joe Chasing Horse & Family, John & Sharon Swift & Family, Patsy Valandra & Family, John Fire, Lame Deer Family, Homer White Lance & Family, Rita Means & Family, Kills In Water Family, Rabbit Family, Metcalf Family, Gunhammer Family, Black Spotted Horse Family, Myron Boneshirt & Family, Vi Waln and All Friends and Relatives.
