Funeral services for 57-year old Neville Milo Red Star Jr are Monday, May 3, 2021 at 11:00 at Joyner Hall in Pine Ridge, SD, with traditional Lakota services by Joseph E Catches, Jefry Catches, Joseph Swift Bird, and Pete Swift Bird
Burial is at the Holy Cross Episcopal Cemetery in Pine Ridge.
A two-night wake service starts Sat, May 1, 2021 at 4:00, also at Joyner Hall in Pine Ridge
Neville Milo Red Star Jr was born on December 18, 1963 in Rushville, NE to Neville Clive Red Star and Gladys Sophie Little Bull. Neville made his journey to the Spirit World on April 27, 2021 at the Pine Ridge I.H.S. Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD.
Neville attended grade school at Pine Ridge Elementary School, Manderson Day School, and Pine Ridge Middle School. He went to Kicking Horse Job Corp and graduated high school, then attended Vo-Tech in Missoula, MT as a Forest Ranger and graduated.
He worked for the B.I.A. as a Prairie Dog Pest Controller for 3 years and also at Yellow Bird’s as a gas station attendant. Neville’s work ethics were always for helping others with the goodness of his heart.
Neville was known as a kind, gentle, and very helpful person, never asking much in return. His love for children was enormous.
In his walk with the Catches Sundance for 30 plus years, he walked with love and compassion. Sundance was and is a very Spiritual time for Neville, he gave all of himself by giving of his serve by being a fire keeper, hauling water, chopping wood, and smudging the grounds all with a huge loving heart and smile on his face.
Neville is survived by his sisters, Nellie G. Bald Eagle and Venus (Ben) Rodriguez both of Pine Ridge, SD, Lina (Tanner) Long and Sherry Red Star both of Lincoln, NE, and Dawn Torres-Campbell of Sioux Falls, SD; and brothers, Anson M. (Grace) Red Star of Olympia, WA, Murray American Horse of Pine Ridge, SD, Jacob Little Bull of Phoenix, AZ, Wyman Red Star of Virginia, and Thomas Red Star of Tennessee.
Neville was preceded in death by his parents, Neville C. Red Star, Sr. and Sophia Gladys Little Bull; sisters, Priscilla, Renita, & Eileen Red Star; brothers, Joseph and Moses John Red Star; nephews, Derrick Beautiful Bald Eagle, Desmond Long, Theodore Red Star, and Dietre Catches; grandparents, Paul, Sr. & Eva (Blunt Horn) Red Star, David Little Bull, and Jettie Imitates Dog.
Pallbearers will be Joseph E. Catches, Jefrey Catches, Justin Mousseau, Dale Garnier, Darwin Long, Sr., Mike Bordeaux, Jerry Bordeaux, Howard Little Hawk, Darrell “Chipper” Goings, Sr., and Alfrendo Hunter.
