A Mass of Christian Burial for 94-year old Sister Frances Biernacki of Great Bend, KS, will be held Thurs, March 31, 2022 at 10:30 CT at the Dominican Chapel of the Plains Convent in Great Bend.

Burial will be in Sisters’ Resurrection Cemetery.
A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 PM on Wed, March 30, at 7:00 CT also at the Chapel of the Plains Sisters’ Convent in Great Bend.

Sister Frances Biernacki was born February 25, 1928, in Garden City, KS, the daughter of Francis and Rose Mary Wolf Biernacki. She passed away March 28, 2022, in the Dominican Sisters convent infirmary in Great Bend.
Sister BIernacki entered the Dominican Sisters Community in 1943 and pronounced vows in 1946. She celebrated 75 years of religious profession in 2021.
Sister Frances’s early ministry was in elementary education, teaching in Kansas and Colorado for 12 years, then in 1956 she was assigned to begin a new mission in Nigeria.
For the next 21 years she served in Kenya and Niger, and was instrumental in the founding of a Nigerian Dominican congregation, the Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena.
Between times of service in the African missions, Sister Frances earned her Master’s degree in Social Work and eventually ministered in that field for 16 years before retiring to the motherhouse in Great Bend in 2000.
Sister Frances was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers (John Fred, Leroy, Edmond, Raymond Charlie, David), and two sisters (Rosella Billinger, Evelyn Biernacki).
She is survived by a brother Ivan Biernacki of Slidell, LA, several nieces and nephews, as well as the Dominican Sisters of Peace.
