COVID-19 Cluster Reported At Rapid City Nursing Home

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – The South Dakota Dept of Health on Monday reported a COVID 19 cluster outbreak at the Advantara Arrowhead nursing home in Rapid City.

The agency says 20 cases were reported over the weekend between residents and staff. Three residents were hospitalized with the virus.

South Dakota Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon says a federal infection control survey done at Advantara Arrowhead before the state’s mass testing program began found 1 resident who tested positive. That led to additional testing and 5 more positives last Thursday before the weekend’s 20 cases.

Advantara released a statement Monday afternoon that said officials were considering everyone at the facility, both staff and residents, as potential COVID-19 carriers to help flatten the curve and prevent a further spread throughout the nursing home and the community.
