The number of confirmed COVID-19 case in the Panhandle since the start of the pandemic has topped 1,000.
Panhandle Unified Command reported 14 new cases Wednesday for a total of 1,007 positives.
There were also 37 recoveries as the number of active cases fell to 132, including 12 patients who are hospitalized. There have now been 886 recoveries and 9 deaths in the region.
Dawes County added 2 more cases and 2 more recoveries for totals of 147 cases, 134 recoveries, and 13 active cases including 2 at Chadron State College – 1 students and 1 staff member. The college remains at 53 total positives – 45 students and 8 staff.
The Chadron Public Schools remain with all 15 of its positive cases recovered but with 8 students or staff still in quarantine.
Nebraska set another new record for COVID-19 hospitalizations Wednesday at 288, up 17 from Tuesday. The availability of hospital beds and ICU beds remains below 30%, with all beds at 28% and ICU beds 22% – the lowest yet. Availability of ventilators stayed at 78%.
Nebraska Health and Human Services reported another 629 new cases and 243 recoveries with no new deaths, pushing the totals to 49,396 cases, 507 deaths, and 35,295 recoveries. There are currently 13,594 active cases in the state.
