The Cody-Kilgore Cowgirls finished the D2-12 Sub-district as champions after entering the tournament as the underdog four-seed. The Cowgirls swept the Crawford Rams Tuesday in sets of 25-21, 25-12, 25-20,

The Rams took the opening point on a tip by Carly Lemmon, but Cody-Kilgore answered immediately on a Abigayle Donner kill and the teams went on to tie at set points 2 and 4 before the Cowgirls took the lead for good. The Rams stuck at 5 for six plays to let C-K open up a 12-5 advantage, but went on a 3-0 run with an ace serve by Natalie Barry and consecutive kills by Hadlee Rudloff and Lemmon to make it 17-11 Cowgirls. A C-K rotation error and ace serve by Cambrea Vogel drew the Rams within four, but C-K kept up the pressure to take the first set.

After a brief 2-0 lead and two ties by set point 3, Crawford trailed the entire second set. The Rams remained at set point seven for six plays and at 10 for five plays, while Cody-Kilgore rattled off ace serves from Elle Ravenscroft, Colby Cady and Donner. The Cowgirls also earned points off of kills by Ravenscroft and Shaelyn Welch-Battershaw. Meanwhile, Crawford benefited from two ace serves by Barry, who also contributed a kill, and an ace from Skylar Summers. Lemmon and Rudloff also added kills for the Rams.

The final set saw five lead changes through set point six, as well as five ties, in action that included ace serves by Cowgirls Aubree Johnson and Cady, two kills by Ravenscroft and one kill by Barry for the Rams. After taking a 6-5 lead, the Cowgirls survived a late challenge by the Rams, who held C-K at set point 23 for seven plays. During the run, Crawford earned two kills by Rudloff and an ace serve by Barry to make it 23-20, but C-K clinched the game on a Crawford error two plays later. Cody-Kilgore will advance to the District Finals Saturday, brackets for which are due out later this week.
