CSC Concert Choir In Concert Sunday

The Chadron State College Concert Choir offers its Spring Concert Sunday at 3:00 at the Chadron Arts Center. The concert is free with masks required, but social distancing means there will be limited seating.

Director Joel Schroeder is offering a program that leans strongly toward sacred numbers including 3 selections from Handel’s “As Pants the Hart, Chandos Anthem #6,”

There are numbers from 4 modern composers, three of them younger than 42. Schroeder picked 2 by 35-year old Jacob Narverud, “Dominus Vobiscum” and “Ad Astra.”

There are also “The Birds’ Lullaby” by 37-year old Sarah Quartel and “Dreams of Thee” by Eric Barnum while 59-year old Elizabeth Alexander is represented by “Where there is Light in the Soul.”

At the other extreme, the program includes “El Grillo (the cricket)” a popular Italian renaissance song by Josquin Desprez, who died in 1521.
