The 6th-ranked Adams State men’s wrestling team lived up to its advanced billing on Friday, when it won a series of close matches and defeated Chadron State 29-9 in Alamosa.

The Eagles won two matches.  Redshirt freshman Keegan Gehlhausen of Pinedale, Wyo., opened the dual by getting a takedown in the third period that helped him edge Hunter Tobiasson 8-7 at 184 pounds.

Gehlhausen also managed two takedowns in the first period and added a two-point near fall in the second frame for his remaining points.  Gehlhausen is now 9-5 for the season.

Chadron State’s other winner was senior heavyweight Mason Watt of Broomfield, Colo. He pinned Abe Garcia with 21 seconds remaining in the first period.  Watt is now 10-2 for the season.

Otherwise, most of the CSC entries kept the scores lows, but were denied the victory in the final period.  Both Quade Smith at 125 and Rowdy Pfeil at 174 lost by a single point.

Despite being warned for stalling, Brendon Garcia held on for a 4-3 win over Smith, and Sam Loera managed a third frame takedown to slip past Pfeil 4-3.

In addition, Adams State’s Kieran Thompson won by a 4-2 score over Ethan Leake at 141 pounds and Isaiah DeLaCerda took 4-0 verdict over Brandon Paredes at 149.

The Eagles are to dual New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon and will be at home on Thursday, Jan. 19 to take on Colorado Mesa.
