CSC Swept In Sunday DH, Weekend Series

Colorado Christian University completed a weekend series sweep over the Chadron State College softball team on Sunday, winning 10-0 and 7-2 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader in Chadron.

The series was the first home action this season for the Eagles.
 
Two CCU pitchers combined for a 2-hit shutout in the morning game. The Cougars jumped ahead 5-0 in the top of the 1st inning, tacked on 4 more runs in the 3rd, and plated one final run in the 4th inning to invoke the run-rule after 5.
 
Kayla Middleton gave the Cougars a boost with a 3-run home run in the 3rd while Samaria Roope, who pitched the last inning, homered in the 4th. Both players finished with a game-high three RBI.
 
J’Lyssa Martinez and Jessie Henchenski had singles for the only base hits by the Eagles.
 
Alexis Hamilton earned the decision for the Cougars, giving up 1 while while striking out 3 and walking 1 in 4 innings in the circle as she improved to 7-1 while CSC’s Kenzi Garner fell to 2-4 after lasting just 2-1/3 innings.
 
In the late game, CCU grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning with a pair of doubles and an error by CSC. The Eagles answered in the bottom of the inning, tying it 2-2 with back-to-back RBI doubles by Henchenski and Lauren Zimmerman.
 
CSC threatened to pull ahead in the 4th, but left runners on 2nd and 3rd. The Eagles went hitless the last 3 innings while CCU added to its score with a 5th-inning run and 2 apiece in the 6th and 7th.
 
Abrie Castillo started in the circle for CCU and pitched 4 innings to improve to 5-2. Tia Kohl pitched 6-1/3 for the Eagles, striking out 6 but also walking 6 and hitting 1 as she fell to 0-10.
 
Colorado Christian improved to 19-5 (9-1 RMAC), while CSC fell to 3-19 (3-9 RMAC).
 
CSC continues to host games on Monday when Northern State visits for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is at noon
