The Chadron State College music department is offering a pair of free concerts this weekend in the Memorial Hall Auditorium.

Up first are the CSC Wind Symphony and the Community Band tonight at 7:00. Although they played joint numbers in the past, each is performing separately tonight. Both are directed by Dr John Wojcik.

This semester has been challenging for the Community Band, which rehearses on Tuesday nights.

The group couldn’t meet on nearly half the 13 Tuesdays during it rehearsal period for one reason or another.

Two practices were canceled by snow, one fell during Chadron State’s Spring Break, one was preempted by the High Plains Festival, and one gave way to the Chadron Public Schools band concert which featured a joint number with the college band.

This weekend’s second concert is tomorrow night at 6:00. It’s the finale to the first-ever Panhandle Percussion Festival.

CSC Percussion Professor Dr Rick Puzzo says the day-long festival includes master classes in the morning, afternoon sessions with two visiting clinicians, and the concluding concert.

Among the performers will be Puzzo, the CSC Percussion Ensemble, and the musicians who took part in the clinics plus special guest artist Lauren Stephens on the flute.
