The Chadron State College golf team shook its rust off on Monday, after nearly five months on hiatus, competing in the Warrior Invite at Stallion Mountain Golf Club in Las Vegas, hosted by Winona State University.

The Eagles fought through less-than-ideal conditions to tie for 1st after one round, shooting an 18-hole score of 341.

“It was really windy today, and the course is in terrible shape,” said CSC Head Golf Coach John Ritzen. “Taking that into consideration, we played well. I know our team isn’t happy, but we will play better tomorrow.”

Sophomore Kinsey Smith and junior Alpine Hickstein matched one other golfer to tie for fourth individually and lead the Chadron State team at 82. Smith arrived in Las Vegas late Saturday night, after competing at the women’s wrestling national championships on Friday, and led the tournament in Vegas for much of the first round.

Junior Jordan Grasis, playing as an individual, led all players in par-five scoring, shooting three under par. She tied with Smith for the tournament’s statistical lead with three birdies.

Tee time for Tuesday is 7 a.m. PT.
