Cyber Monday Isn’t Just For Big Retailers

Today is Cyber Monday, wrapping up a weekend that began with Black Friday and  Small Business Saturday.

Cyber Monday was created in 2005 by retailers to encourage people to shop online and has become the online equivalent to Black Friday and offers a way for smaller retail websites to compete with larger chains.

Chadron Chamber of Commerce Director Gabby Michna says most local businesses can benefit from the day because they have an online presence.

Michna says Cyber Monday can be a big part of the Shop Local movement, which also includes Small Business Saturday in a nationwide campaign mobilizing people to shop local. She likes it because it focuses on the positives of shopping locally.

Dave Rippe, former director of the Nebraska Dept of Economic Development and owner of Queen City Development Corporation in Hastings, is another big believer in the Shop Local movement.

Gabby Michna says anyone who’s not sure what business are in and around Chadron should check out the chamber website.
