Funeral services for 56-year old David Patrick McBride are Monday, Dec 28, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church Hall near Kyle, SD, with Pastor Matt Hadden and Father Ron Seminara, S.J., officiating.

Burial services are at St Stephen’s Catholic Church Cemetery, Kyle, SD

A one-night wake service starts at 4:00 PM, Sunday, Dec 27, 2020 at the Sharp’s Corner Baptist Church at Sharps Corner, SD

Visitation and final viewing service precedes the funeral on Monday from 10:00 AM ~ 1:00 PM also at St Stephen’s Catholic Church Hall

The family asks that everyone honor Tribal and CDC recommendations for Social Distancing.  

A Celebration of life will be held in the Spring or Summer of 2021

David Patrick McBride was born on December 26,1963 to Louis McBride and Myrna (Janis) McBride on the Pine Ridge Reservation and was raised in Kyle, SD. He passed away on December 19, 2020 at the Monument Health in Rapid City, SD. 

When he was young, David was an avid fisherman at Kyle Dam.  He sold his fish to the grandmas in Kyle and would also guide fishermen from Nebraska who came to Kyle Dam for its good fishing.  

He was a Denver Bronco and Little Wound Mustang fan.  He lived in Rapid City, SD these past years with his daughter but he was always a “Kyle guy.”

David graduated from Little Wound High School where he played basketball, football, and was in the Aviation Club.  He attended Chadron State College and Oglala Lakota College where he took construction trades courses.  His instructor, master carpenter and cabinetmaker Colin Hobson, said David was his best student.  He worked construction for a number of years. 

He is survived by his daughters, Darcy Rae, Danelle, and Desirae McBride; grandchildren, Rhiannon Jade Richards, Kaitlyn Angelique Richards, Terell David Weston, Brier Kyle McBride, and Taylin Shylee McBride; Karen Red Elk, the mother of his children and cheerleader; sisters, Carla (Mosey) Montileaux (Martin, SD), Darlene (Greg Towry) McBride (Spearfish), Stephanie Romero (Spearfish), and Heather Allen (Eagle Butte); brothers, Mike White (Spearfish) and George (Karla) McBride (Kyle); his stepdad and stepmom, Tom and Michele Allen (Spearfish); stepsister, Winona (Elton Three Stars II) Angel (Spearfish); Bearhand Sr (Rena), (Lake Andes); first cousins, Cindy Hornbeck, Donna Hornbeck, Connie Two Crow, Roxanne Holmes, Randy Emery, Rick Emery, and Robin Loring; cousins, Arlis Lynn Pourier, Kay Ann Janis, Myreen Iron Cloud, Dawn Iron Cloud, TD Garnette, Gary Garnette, Friday Garnette, Jodi Janis, Monique Janis, Arlen Janis, Deb Cordier, Virginia Lee DeGarmo; Louie Janis, Gilbert Janis, Barney Janis, Donita Little Whiteman, Jenny Janis, Phoebe Janis, Benny Janis, Gilberta Janis, Donroy Janis, Darla Janis, Jack Janis, Betty Waters, Melissa Janis, Alvin Janis, Calvin Janis, and Jackie Gray; aunts, Jeannie Janis, Anita Janis and Wynema Delong; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved.

David was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bernie and Cornelia (Hunter) Janis; parents, Louis McBride and Myrna Janis Allen; aunts and uncles, Charles and Marie Emery, Loretta and Jack Hornbeck, Tony Apple, and Sylvester Sog Janis; brother, Louie McBride; niece, Brandy Montileaux; nephew, Shilo Pierce; cousins, Charlene Janis, Donnie Janis, Alan Janis, Archie Janis, Ardie Janis, Jr., Rodney Janis, Bob Hornbeck, and Mark Hornbeck; and his grandson, Jerell Francis Rae McBride. 

Pallbearers will be Randy Emery, Taylor Janis, Willie Janis, Ronnie Ferguson, Greg Towry, Donnie Mesteth, Myron Janis, and Duane Janis.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy George Shangreaux, Victor Comes, Elgin Red Blanket, Carlin Red Blanket, Darwin Eagle Elk, Duane Eagleman, Wilbur Ferguson, Wilbur Hunter, Harold Red Owl, Joe Red Owl, Cleveland Shot With Arrows, Wallace White Dress, Elvira Shangreaux, Bat Shangreaux, Leon Poor Bear, Ross Janis, Doug Justus, Colin Thunderhawk and all friends and family.

The family would like to thank Dr. McAllister and Dr. Kovaleski and the other primary caregivers at Monument Health.
