Delmar Jo “DJ” One Feather

Funeral services for 48-year old Delmar Jo “DJ” One Feather are Friday, Jan 22, 2021 at 9:00 AM at the #9 Community Church in Manderson, SD, with Pastor Jeremy Mouw officiating and traditional Lakota services by Earl Tall

Burial will be Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. DJ was a veteran of the U-S Air Force and a veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

A one-night wake service starts Thurs, Jan 21, 2021 at noon, also at the #9 Community Church in Manderson, SD.

Delmar Jo One Feather was born on December 10, 1972 to Emmaline Black Elk.  He was given the Lakota name “Hehaka Sapa” by his grandfather, Henry Black Elk.  

DJ attended Rockyford Day School in his childhood years until he graduated 8th grade in 1988.  He continued his high school education and graduated class of 1991 at Red Cloud Indian High School.  

After completing high school, DJ enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 19, 1992. He served four years and was honorably discharged on March 20, 1996.  DJ was a Desert Shield/Storm Veteran.  

After his military service, DJ became an officer for the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety from 1996 to 2000.  DJ received his bachelor’s in human services from Oglala Lakota College and was also certified as a Pharmacy Tech from Western Dakota Technical Institute on July 13, 2001.  

DJ then became employed with Regional/Monument Health for nearly 19 years.  He had just started a new position at the Cancer Care Institute prior to his passing.  He was proud of his accomplishments and we were all proud of him.  

DJ was preceded in death by his mother, Emmaline Black Elk; maternal grandparents, Agnes Hollow Horn-Black Elk and Henry Black Elk, Lawrence Hollow Horn, Raymond Hollow Horn, Irene Hollow Horn-Harvey, Pearl Hollow Horn, & Merle White Hawk; and his Tunwin, Mikiyela Black Elk.

DJ is survived by his daughter, Payton Jo One Feather of Pine Ridge, SD; sons, Wakinyan, Trenton, & Jalin One Feather all of Rapid City, SD; adopted son, Cody Janis of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers, Nikolaus (Naomi) Black Elk of Kyle, SD, Tokala Clifford of Huntington Beach, CA, and Inyan Black Elk of White Horse Creek-Manderson, SD; sisters, Adrienne Black Elk of Rapid City, SD, and Kokipapi Kat’ela Heraka Sapa of White Horse Creek-Manderson, SD; auntie-mom, Charlotte Black Elk of White Horse Creek-Manderson, SD; uncle, Thomas Harvey of White Horse Creek-Manderson, SD; siblings, Tokahe Win Clifford, Grace Clifford-Turning Hawk, L’tonya Harvey, Adeline White Face, Tatuye Najin Win Chas Alone; nephews, Gauge Black Elk of Rapid City, SD, Chance Yellow Boy, and Oye Yellow Boy both of Allen, SD; Tojan, Emmalyn “Spout” Black Elk of Kyle, SD; and many nieces & nephews.  

Pallbearers will be Russel “Chico” Mousseaux, Pete Stands, Doug Novotny, Mario Graham, Chad White Face, Charles Comes Killing, Jr., Martin Turning Hawk, Charles Black Crow, Lovey Fire Lightning, and Blake Wright.
