Delores Wilma Blacksmith “Oyate Iyuha Wi Wayake” was born on October 18, 1931 at home near Oglala, SD to Eugene Wounded Horse and Emma (Young Dog) Wounded Horse. Delores made her journey to the Spirit World on December 13, 2020 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Delores is survived by her children, Muriel Blacksmith, Joni Paule, Wilma Blacksmith, Janet Blacksmith, Grant Blacksmith, Thomas Blacksmith, Emma Blacksmith, and Wesley Blacksmith; grandchildren, Hermis Janis, Eric Janis, Jon Blacksmith, Lucien Jimenez, Micheal Jimenez, David Paule, Debra Buffy, Nathaniel Blacksmith, Helena Lamont, Rose Yellow Horse, Monique Yellow Horse, Delphine Blacksmith, Prairie Blacksmith, Michelle Bear Saves Life, Melvin Blacksmith, Joshua Blacksmith, Caleb Blacksmith, Julian Blacksmith, Fredrika Blacksmith, Isobella Blacksmith, Bradley Blacksmith, Clinton Blacksmith, Edith Black Smith, Edward Blacksmith, Megan Blacksmith, Chaysten Blacksmith, Charles Janis, Jr., Sophia Janis, Christian Janis, Alliey Janis, Andy Janis, Delores Janis, David Janis, Jada Janis, Maya Janis, Aliaa Janis, Joaquin Janis, Mable Janis, Heavenly Janis, Emmarie Watson, Castor Blacksmith, Pollux Blacksmith, Margret Blacksmith, Divine Blacksmith, Major Blacksmith, Lawrence Blacksmith, and Brandon Blacksmith; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Lois Wounded Horse; brother, Myles Wade; and hunka sons, Leon Schwartz and Eric Sutton.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Emma Wounded Horse; spouse, Melvin Blacksmith; son, Leon Wounded Horse; sister, Florence Wounded Horse, grandchildren, Maureen Janis, Cunku Jimenez, and Nicholas Blacksmith; and great grandchildren, Darris Eagle Bull, Harold Dean Lamont, Javon Blacksmith, Sophia Grace Webster, and Ezekiel Economy.
Pallbearers will be Hermis Janis, Napolean Lays Bad, Nathaniel Blacksmith, Melvin Blacksmith, Charles Janis, Jr., Randall “Tuffy” Brave Heart, Jr., Eric Mesteth, Joshua Blacksmith, Franklin Looks Twice, Castor Blacksmith, Antonio Blacksmith, and Rayden Janis.
