The Chadron State College golf team was in third place, after Thursday’s first round, out of seven teams in the Legacy Invitational at Legacy Golf Club in Las Vegas, hosted by Winona State University.

CSC golfers Kinsey Smith and Jordan Grasis were tied for the tourney lead at 83 strokes after 18 holes on Thursday.

“We got another great performance from Kinsey today,” said CSC Head Golf Coach John Ritzen. “It was a really tough day with the wind and cold temperatures. The weather made the leader board pretty bunched up, but I think we will see the women separate themselves tomorrow. Jordan also played well today. She has started to figure some things out and is getting more consistent. I think we will continue to see her improve this spring.”

Four other women were tied atop the leaderboard. Two golfers from McKendree University and one each from Minot State and host Winona State had a share of the lead.

Just two strokes separated Winona, at 339, from McKendree’s 340 strokes and CSC at 341, in the team standings.

Play resumes early on Friday morning.
