The Chadron State College softball team will try to get back in the winning column again on Saturday and Sunday when it hosts New Mexico Highlands for a four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series at CSC Softball Field.

The Eagles, who have been stymied in their last five appearances, and 11 of the last 12, are 4-24 overall, and 3-13 in RMAC play, tying them with Adams State and Highlands for 10th in the league.

The Cowgirls, coming off their first win in 15 tries, are 5-21 with a conference mark matching CSC’s.

Four of Highlands’ five wins have come in the state of New Mexico, with two in Albuquerque, two at home in Las Vegas, and one last weekend in Denver.

In the RMAC statistical rankings, NMHU is batting .255 as a team, one spot ahead of the 12th-ranked Eagles at .230. Its team pitching ERA is a 12th-place 7.85.

Leading the Cowgirls in nearly every pitching category is junior Nathalie Blattmann. She sports an ERA of 4.85, a record of 4-8, 46 strikeouts, and a .300 opponent batting average. All of those lead her squad.

Likewise, one NMHU player holds the lead in most batting stats. She is freshman Heaven Medina, with a .361 batting average, three home runs, 15 RBI, 14 runs scored, and a slugging average of .607.

CSC is led by freshman pitcher Kenzi Garner and senior Gabby Russell. Garner’s ERA of 4.80 barely clips Russell’s 4.82. Russell leads the team with a .317 opponent batting average. Garner’s 3-6 record is a team-best as well.

Sophomore Jessie Henchenski, at .316 is the surest batter for the Eagles. However junior Addison Spears leads the team in RBI at 14, and freshman Aliyah Rothstein has a team-high 13 runs scored.

Both teams are tied for eighth in the RMAC with a .943 fielding percentage.

The pair of doubleheaders are scheduled for noon on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
