Eagles Wrestling Defeat Plainsmen 31-12

Chadron State College wrestlers used their Saturday to jaunt southward into Colorado for a quick dual at No. 11 Northeastern Junior College, in Sterling, where the Eagles prevailed 31-12 against the Plainsmen.

The NJC lineup featured five sophomores who are ranked in the top 10 of the NJCAA, at their respective weight classes.

Chadron State got three wins by fall, with 133-pounder Brandon Kile, 165-pound Tate Allison, and 285-pound Mason Watt all pinning their opponents in the first or second periods. Allison’s opponent was Davonn Keyes, ranked No. 8 nationally within the junior college ranks.

Chase Clasen, at 157, was the other CSC grappler to defeat a ranked wrestler, winning 6-3 over No. 5 Sebastian Robles of Northeastern.

No. 10 Wade French, at 197 pounds, won a major decision giving CSC another bonus point.

Other Eagles who emerged victorious were Joseph Taylor at 141 and Chance Karst at 149.

Chadron State’s senior night, and final dual of the year, is Thursday, February 6, at 6 p.m. in the Chicoine Center. Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Adams State University, ranked No. 13 in NCAA Division II, will be the visiting opponent.
