Eva Dunn was born on September 5, 1935, in Alliance, NE, to Mary Arms and John Schaefer. She passed peacefully October 29th, 2021, at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford Nebraska with her loving family by her side.

Growing up, she was a loving caretaker to her 3 siblings – Bob, Jan and Jim – and ways willing to shoulder extra responsibility and be a good example to them.

She had fond memories during her childhood of gathering scrap materials to help the Allied war effort during WW2 and of listening to Jackie Robinson’s baseball games on the radio.

She graduated in 1953 From Kearney High and her natural caretaking abilities and inquisitive mind led her to become a country schoolteacher in Sioux County, NE. It was here that she would meet the love of her life William “Bill” Dunn.

They were married on June 6th, 1955. To this union five children were born: William Joseph, (B.J.), Richard Lee, David Lester, Robert Lloyd (Pete), and Lesa Marie.

Eva’s children and later her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the lights of her life. She would do anything for any of them when they needed it and was always generous with her time and her love.

Eva and Bill spent the first years of their marriage working for Lloyd and Clara Story, then moved back to Harrison and worked for Herren Brothers Hardware. A few years later, they moved to Scottsbluff where Bill worked for Magnolia Mobile Homes.

After the Anderson family suffered the loss of the three men in the family, they called Bill and Eva to come back and run their ranch north of Harrison. The family spent 9 years there. When Eva and Bill’s two oldest boys started high school, the family moved back into Harrison.

Eva raised her five children, cooking, cleaning and running a tight ship at home. She also regularly held additional employment – first at Sioux Sundries working for lifelong friend Dolores Wasserburger serving world famous Coffee Burgers to the fine folks of Sioux County and later for many years back at Herron Brothers Hardware for beloved friends John and Terri Herron.

Eva was a strong and resilient woman. She had a deep abiding faith in God and was a woman of prayer. She was the sturdy foundation upon which our family was built. She was not only a nurturing and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother but also a tireless worker who instilled in all of us the best virtues in life.

She was a wonderful cook and baker. Not only will the world be an emptier place without her, but it will miss her delicious Sunday dinners and her delectable strawberry rhubarb crisp and chocolate sheet cake.

Eva was preceded in death by her mother Mary Arms and her loving husband Bill Dunn.

Sge is survived by BJ and Cheryl Dunn (Mark and Matt), Richard Dunn (Kelsey, Cora, Alyssa, Kayla and Jonny), David and Donna (James and Jasmine), Pete and Shelly (Lindsay) and Lesa and Jay (Zach and Mariah) and numerous great-grandchildren.

Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements for Eva Dunn.
