Evacuee With Cough Doesn’t Have Coronavirus

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – Nebraska health officials say the coronavirus evacuee transferred from the Camp Ashland National Guard training center to the UNMC quarantine unit on Friday after developing a cough does not have the virus that causes the disease.

Officials had said when announcing the transfer that the woman’s symptoms were “extremely mild” with the testing being done “out of an abundance of caution.”

The Nebraska Public Health lab gave the woman two tests 24 hours apart and both were negative, meaning she doesn’t have the COVID-19 virus.

She was then taken from the National Quarantine Center on the UNMC/Nebraska Medicine campus to Camp Ashland, where she rejoined the other 56 evacuees. If they all remain symptom-free, they will leave quarantine Thursday morning at 9:00.
