The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Dawes County today from noon until 9:00 pm with dangerously hot conditions of temperatures up to 110-degrees and heat index values as high as 105.

The Weather Service says extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, especially for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

OSHA recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Heat stroke is an emergency, so 911 should be called if someone is overcome by the heat. They should also be moved to a cool and shaded location

Recommendations for everyone include rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours, wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible, drinking plenty of fluids, and staying out of the sun and in an air-conditioned room.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, and checking up on relatives and neighbors is recommended.

.     There’s also a Red Flag Warning for critical fire weather conditions from 11:00 AM to 9 PM.
