Family Altercation Results In Death On Pine Ridge Reservation

PINE RIDGE, S.D. – The Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety says family squabble on the Pine Ridge Reservation early Wednesday morning ended with one man dead and another under arrest. Names have not been released.

Tribal police says the altercation occurred sometime before 4:25 Wednesday morning at a home north of Porcupline and just south of the Evergreen Housing Community.

Responding officers reported finding a “large amount of blood” and an unconscious man who had been hit with an unknown object. He was taken to the Indian Health Service hospital in Pine Ridge, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect was also taken the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries before being taken to the OST Justice Center Jail. The case is being investigated jointly by the OST police, BIA and FBI.
