Federal Lawsuit Accuses Omaha Police Of Brutality, Excessive Force During Racial Injustice Protests

The American Civil Liberties Union of Nebraska has filed a federal lawsuit challenging the tactics of Omaha police during this summer’s Black Lives Matter protests.

The lawsuit accuses the Omaha police of using excessive force, unnecessarily using pepper balls, and making mass arrests.

City officials believe police acted properly and that arrests were proper because police believed the gatherings had the potential to become violent – and in some cases already had.

More than 100 people were arrested at one protest in July, but most of the charges were later dismissed.
