Panhandle Unified Command on Wednesday reported 2 more deaths in the region, one the first in Sioux County and the other the fourth in 3 days in Dawes County.
The Sioux County man in his 90s and the Dawes County man in his 80s bring the number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Panhandle to 16.
Unified Command also reported 124 new coronavirus cases and 92 more recoveries to bring the number of active cases to a record 812, including 43 who are hospitalized. The region has had 2,188 total cases and 1,60 recoveries.
There were 8 new cases and 11 recoveries in Dawes County, pushing its totals to 61 active cases and 264 total cases.
Chadron State College had another new case and another recovery, both students, to remain at 4 active cases, all students, and 69 total cases. None of the Chadron Public Schools’s 23 cases are active but the district does have 9 quarantines.
Box Butte County has 102 active cases out of 317 total, Sheridan County has 35 active and 151 total cases, while Sioux County now has 1 active case and 1 death out of 12 total cases.
Statewide, the number of new cases, active cases, and hospitalized cases all continue to soar with 1,169 new cases, 217 recoveries, and 8 deaths on Wednesday.
That pushed the number of active cases over 23,000 to 23,017 including a record 483 who are hospitalized, 37 more than the record and on Tuesday.
The percentage of available hospital beds, ICU beds, and ventilators all dropped to 28% for hospital beds, 32% for ICU beds, and 72% for ventilators.
Nebraska has had 66,545 cases, 628 deaths, and 42,850 recoveries since the start of the pandemic. . The state’s rate of new cases remains 8th-highest in the nation with a 7-day rolling average of daily new cases of 852.43.
